Jeeesh, and I thought SVA's lawyers had balls! TRANSFORMS!?!?!

...but probably no one will!

Srsly though, I don't think I've ever gotten a gift fic that hasn't been some sort of awesome....but this? THIS?!?!?! It's everything I asked for--voyeurism! Infidelity!! and a million things I didn't BUT TOTALLY WANTED ANYWAY!! Jealous reversal!?!?! OMG! HOT! To have Snape be the one whose moved on and Lily be the one who realizes she'd made a mistake by dismissing him!

It's Snape/Lily LIKE I'VE NEVER SEEN THEM BEFORE!!

It's All Trubbleclef's Fault

Slytherin: fucks on the first date
Having read all seven Harry Potter books, dare I say, repeatedly, I have had a somehwat meh view and understanding of Seamus Finnigan and an even less stellar opinion of Pansy Parkinson. So, never have I seeked out stories where these characters even make a cameo, let alone dominate the storyline.

Then [info]trubbleclef wrote the hysterical "Death at The Manor, by Alasdair Head" for bestmates xmas exchange and in it was this side pairing of Pansy/Seamus that was really, really entertaining and all sorts of wonderful. I loved it!

So, when she told me she had asked for Pansy/Seamus for [info]wizard_love I just thought, well, that's one less story I'll have to read! :) But it was for Trubble...so of course I had to read it...

OMG!!

It is STUNNING! Not only is this the best Seamus I've read (which, admittedly isn't saying much as I've said, he's not a character I've seeked out) but this author's Pansy? WOW! Just amazingly broken and nuanced and so on the cusp or BECOMING a character with real depth and growth...soooo well done.

Closer (Pansy Parkinson/Seamus Finnigan, NC-17)

Summary: For five years she’d avoided anyone familiar, anyone who could possibly link her to her past and the things she done, the things she regretted, and now she was standing in the doorway of a Guildhall pub, staring into the eyes of the one person who knew her deepest and darkest secret. The one who could ruin her should she piss him off enough. The only person ever to crack that hard core and make her feel alive. But was it enough to stop her from running?

I Am Broken...

  • Feb. 4th, 2009 at 1:19 PM
writing--kerouac
Just finished reading a story that fuckin' broke me.

There is a reason I sometimes avoid Remus/Sirius--a number of them actually...but the Remus/Sirius writers love of canon compliance and the freakin' foreshadowing is one of the main reasons...so I was prepared for a bit of heartache when I saw that despite a weird premise He That Believeth in Me followed canon completely, but I wasn't expecting to love, love, LOVE the premise of this story so much...when I got to this interaction...I just LOST IT...

"Sirius," he whispered. "I'm not your consolation."

"What?"

"I'm not your consolation for the life you wanted, and I'm not your salvation from what you've done."

Sirius understood. "No," he said. "No. You're not." He reached up and cupped Remus's cheek. "I'll find my own consolation, and Harry is my salvation. You... you are my grace."

You see, Sirius leaves Hogwarts with a desire to be a priest...wha!?!?!?!  Sounds ridiculous? It's so not!

I for one have never before read a HP fanfic story that has to do with faith, with beliefs and with the struggle of loving a God that could allow bad things to happen to good people. In that way it reminded me of one of my favorite books of all time--Mary Doria Russell's "The Sparrow" and as Sirius struggles with his belief, he reminded me of my favorite literary character of all time--Emilio Sandoz from "The Sparrow" who is--according to the book "The sole survivor of the Jesuit mission to Rhakhat," who struggles with his beliefs when horrible, horrible things happen to him on another planet. And I don't even like Sci-fi!! Not really...

Seriously, take it from me, sometimes the most absurd premises deliver these amazing stories that make you truly think. So while this is a rec for a great Remus/Sirius story, it is also a rec for "The Sparrow" because it is phenomanal and I want everyone to read it so that we  can discuss!

I still can't believe it's true! Like I'm living in a dream where things are bright and all is right with the world, if only for this one tiny moment.

Wagering Poll

Whatnot--FTW!!
Okay, it's time to pay the piper a bit here. [info]redsnake05 has bet me I won't be able to tell which fic she wrote for [info]hp_yule_balls and I think I will. Now though, she's written a pinch hit, so I can guess on what the first one was she wrote. So, here's your chance to get in on the fun.

Poll #1320545 What Did Redsnake05 Write
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All

I think one of these is Redsnake05's fic for HP Yule Balls. Which do you think?

If you think it's something else, what?

Want another guess? Sure...

Oh, but before you bet, here are some pros and cons and whatnot to consider...

Some research to consider before choosing... )

Now--here's the exciting part! The first five people that guess right she says she will write you a ficlet based on your interests and you can also give her three pairings--and if you know her, you know she has lots of fandoms and bandoms to choose from!

God Bless!!!!!

Book Release and Equus...again

  • Oct. 21st, 2008 at 8:57 AM
FF- Mal/Wash
Today is the day! The hardcover of "Ripple Effect" is now out and available at a bookstore near you!! Yay!! If you're bookstore doesn't have it (in the US) tell them they SHOULD! The paperback is still available at Amazon, although any mistakes in that one have been corrected in this edition (not that there were any mistakes! Wha?!?!? Us, mistakes?). I know, we did it completely backwards, but to be fair, we didn't know just HOW AWESOME the book was going to be when we went into deals with Amazon and they only do paprback, so, there you go!

So, how was everyone's weekend? I hope it was fun or relaxing; filled with family and friends, or spent doing whatever you wanted. For me? Saturday I went into the city with [info]apythia and her friend (who was awesome!) had tickets to the matinee of Equus, [info]apythia had asked me if I wanted to go when she bought the tix, but I couldn't justify spending the money again as I'm seeing it on Thursday with [info]trubbleclef YAY!! I♥U Trubble! So, instead I went to TKTS--the discount place to get same day half price tix for plays and musicals--for an evening show of whatever they had available. I really wanted to see "Boeing Boeing." I stand in line, waiting, waiting...they start posting what they have on sale--Yay! "Boeing Boeing" is up there!! That's all I need to know, but as I scroll down, I see that there's another big play that is all the rage on the half price--that's right, "Equus!" But that doesn't matter as I'm seeing "Boeing Boeing" ...but it's "Equus"...NO! I'm seeing it in four days...saw it opening weekend...I'm seeing "Boeing Boeing"...but it's "Equus! I get up to the window and very proudly proclaim "One for 'Boeing Boeing' please!" Of course I had to say it like three times because with their new system they really can't hear...also with their new system, you can't see what's on the board of available shows when you're up there...which was unfortunate. "Sorry ma'am, we've sold the last of those." Uh...uh...and I'm standing there, and I hadn't seen if anything else I wanted to see was there, and there were people pushing all around me waiting for their turn, and the person beside me was obnoxiously asking what musicals they had and the guy behind the glass wasn't hearing and you could see the frustration in all the people behind him, and I was starting to hyperventilate..."Ummmm, 'Equus?"

That, of course, he heard the first time! So the weird news is now I'm seeing "Equus" three times, the good news is that one of them only cost me 60 bucks!! It was actually even better this second time! But I still can't wait to see it on Thursday as there will be a lot of friends there seeing it too and I'm really excited about that! Which reminds me, the only bummer of the day was I was planning to hang out with [info]rickey_a and her friend but by the time we made contact, I had to go *sad face* That's the only bad thing about living in CT. if you don't drive in (and I'm way not ready for that) then you either have to find someone who is driving or take the train...if you drive in with someone else, you gotta go when they wanna go--or take the train...but the sucky thing about the trains is that the last one leaves at 1:30 (and is called the "Vomit Comet" for a reason!) and doesn't start again until 5 in the morning... anyway, sorry I missed you Rickey!

David Gergen just said that the elections aren't over, even though all the polls are saying it was a homerun...

"It's not over because Obama is Black."

When did pundents get so truthful and blunt?

It is possible that I've forgotten about the race issue?

I'm turning into one of those people...

...but seriously, how can I not?

I just found this blog of Scott Westerfeld (author of the Uglies series among others) who I LOVE, and he directed me, and the teen I take care of to this site! Awesome! And what's even better? Gondoliers for Obama!! When was the last time foreigners were not horrified or embarrassed by our leaders?

Oh, and on a totally different subject...today, I was looking at the cookbook my boss it helping publish for their daughter's hotty-totty private school. The book is titled, "Savor the Flavor" and I stared at it FOREVER thinking it was spelled wrong...Evidently, I have been reading far too much fanfic, I could have SWORE there was "U"s in savor and flavor!! (I of course blamed it on Virginia Woolf and Charles Dickens to the boss lady!)

This was supposed to be an awesome weekend of tearful goodbyes to my favorite place in the world and a joyous event were I got to reunite with my BruBitches of Terminus legend at WizWrock NYC... instead, what am I doing? Laying flat on my back, whincing every time I move, bored outta my skull and reading the angstiest story EVAH!!! Thanks alot [info]redsnake05 (IHU!)

The greatest bar in the world, The Green Room, an oasis in a cruel ugly world, where the rejects of Mensa came to drown their high IQ blues closed its doors this Saturday night--or Sunday morning actually. I wanted to close that bar down and pay tribute to just what it meant to me, but two hours in, I started feeling a twinge in my lower back. A twinge that two years ago had me rushed to the emergency room and bedridden for a week. I SOOOOOOO wasn't repeating that. So I went home and drowned my sorrows in painkillers and cheap booze!

And tonight, instead of hanging out with [info]apythia, [info]dulcamatrix and [info]drhermionephd and listening to WizWrock and continuing getting out the word for our next project, I am sitting here watching the Emmy's and reading the always informative and sometimes quiet hilarious "Popped Culture" blog.

Anybody else watching this travesty!?!?!

Surprise, surprise...

Yep, here's where I stand in my politics... last time I took on of these I was so left I was almost a Communist...now, I have a hard time answering anything "strongly" one way or the other...what's that about? Life lessons? I don't know...maybe I'm wishy-washy...

Yeah, so I've been a n00b for so long that it finally dawned on me that there might be people out there who are newer then I...so to return the favor that others had bestowed on me when first joining the fandom...I present the stories that I was given as MUSTS in their respective pairings...

REC LIST ONE: CLASSICS )

This reccing things is kinda fun! I'm going to do it more often! First, I gotta read more!!

Oh, but wait, that reminds me--one more. But it's not a classic--yet, and it's not Harry Potter, it's Buffy. It's Spike and it's Xander and it was written FOR ME!! Go read the lovely drabble!
